Faculty Digital Access FAQ

How to do I set up VitalSource in my Canvas course?

You need to make sure the "VitalSource Course Materials" link is available for students. If this link is not on visible on your Canvas course menu, students will not be able to access and/or opt-out of the materials!

If you do not see the VitalSource link on your course navigation menu in Canvas, follow the below steps to set-up:

1. Click "Settings" at the bottom of the course navigation menu.

2. Click the "Navigation" tab.

3. Locate "VitalSource Course Materials."

4. Click and hold the cluster of dots to the left.

5. Drag up to the location you want and drop.

6. Scroll to the bottom and click "Save."

E-books and courseware delivered by VitalSource are automatically connected to your class. Please note: there may be additional steps you need to take to set-up your partner integrated courseware! This includes courseware from publishers such as Pearson and Human Kinetics.

I have questions about VitalSource delivered e-book.

If you have questions, please visit VitalSource's support page. This page answers several popular questions, including how to utilize bookshelf and resources for instructors.

Do I need to set-up courseware before I use it? How do I do that?

Yes! If you are using courseware delivered by VitalSource, you can follow the below guides or reach out to your publisher rep directly.

Cengage Partner Integration

Pearson Partner Integration

If you are using courseware delivered by a publisher, you will need to set-up your class site through the publisher. If you need assistance with setting courseware up, please contact your publisher rep directly. Certain courseware titles (from publishers such as McGraw Hill and WW Norton) are not accessed through VitalSource's system, but rather the publisher directly.

One of my students is having trouble access the materials. Who should they contact?

If one of your students is having trouble, please refer them to the How to Access DDA Materials page.

I have a student retaking my class. Do they have to pay for the materials again?

The student would need to check to see how long their access lasts. All DDAs have different access! Some have one semester only while others have lifetime access. If a student already has access, they have to manually opt-out before the deadline! It is not an automatic process!!

What are the opt-out deadlines this semester?

Please visit the Important Dates page to view the current opt-out deadlines.
